Nothing is More Dangerous than Love. Silhouettes of two men in a spooky graveyard under the red light of a gas giant in the sky.

What People are Saying

“By the time the relationship I’d been waiting to see had begun, the story had long since established the significance of how the end of one relationship affected the establishment of the next. The events that unfolded throughout that relationship were surprising, but the end result felt right because, given who these people were, it made sense. Even the intensity of that relationship, passionate to the point of bordering on being overwhelming, stands to reason once it becomes clear how Sofian and his romantic interest came to be who they are. Equally reasonable is the fact that until the very end, that intensity never wanes. (Fair warning: “Spicy” is an understatement. These scenes are not for the faint of heart.)”

“This is a tale of adventure and self-discovery as much as lust. There are relatively few sex scenes. However, they will leave you breathless and aching. They have an emotional complexity that is fairly rare, especially in erotic romance, which I suppose is the appropriate genre. I’ve never encountered a more brutal or more moving BDSM scene in erotic romance than the final session when Sofian begs for Numair’s pardon.”

“Came for the porn and stayed for the plot. I enjoyed it very much.”

“What really sets Burka aside from other authors in the genre is her wondrous ability to weave a deeply touching love story in the twists and turns of dominance and submission, turning rather extreme bdsm scenes in moments of unbearable tenderness. A journey into unsuspected places of the human soul.”

“The best bdsm stories… no, the best erotic stories I ever read.”
—Amazon review of Mate—and More Stories from the Erotic Edge of SF/Fantasy

“It seems to me that Lauren Burka is one of the few writers nowadays who can really tell a love story without pulling punches on the erotic and SM side of the tale. Her books are gutsy, emotional, well written, unusual, brave and just plain lovely. I will care for the characters of Mate and Whiphand for the rest of my days, like old friends.”
